Antiseptic gel can help prevent insect bites
Friday 2nd 2007f February 2007

People’s reactions to wasp and bee stings, and mosquito bites vary. If you feel ill, or have difficulty breathing, get medical help immediately.
How to prevent being stung? Eating copious amounts of raw garlic is said to repel mosquitoes but unfortunately has a similar effect on people. Less antisocial alternatives are cider vinegar (the active ingrediant in Gramdma Vines Antiseptic Gel), and lavender and citronella essential oils (use 6-8 drops in the bath, combine with 1tbsp of grapeseed or sweet almond oil for a massage, or add to a burner).

How to treat it Neat lavender or tea tree essential oils will soothe the pain and itching, protect against infection and help the skin heal. Grandma Vine anteseptic gel will also help prevent itching, seal the skin and help healing. Wasp venom is alkaline and best neutralised with neat lemon juice or cider vinegar first; bee venom is acidic and may be neutralised with 1 heaped teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda, mixed to a paste with a little water, to which you can add 1 drop of lavender, 1 of tea tree.
