WHAT IS ECZEMA
A common skin allergy, eczema can occur almost anywhere on the body. There are many variants, and the irritation escalates because of itching and scratching, also the stress of living with a skin problem or other stressful situations, can play a major part in the escalation of eczema. There are 6 million people who suffer with eczema in the UK. You are not alone.
SYMPTOMS
- Redness, inflammation and swelling.
- The appearance of very small blisters, at first oozing then dry and cracked.
- Itching, that can lead to compulsive scratching, spreading of infection, and worsening the condition.
- Coarsening or scaling of the skin.
CAUSES
Eczema is often caused by the skin reacting to contact with irritating substances or to certain foodstuffs, as well overeating, intoxication and extremes of temperature. Some types of eczema run in families, or are triggered by stress or an immune response.
CONVENTIONAL TREATMENTS FOR ECZEMA AND DERMATITIS
The mainstay conventional treatment for eczema and dermatitis is topical steroid creams or ointment. Often recommended is white petrolatum, hydrogenated vegetable oil or other emollients to hydrate the excessively dry skin of both eczema and dermatitis. This treatment has been unchanged for the past 30 years. For many, these conventional treatments do not work for them and they find themselves at a loss where to turn to find much needed relief and control for their frustrating conditions. They can feel hopeless and totally let down.
15% OF GPs WORKLOAD IS SKIN RELATED
Today, at least 15% of people in the UK consult their doctor with skin related problems such as eczema and dermatitis etc, this also includes skin allergies. The sufferer’s needs are far more complex than the physical condition and time consuming for busy GPs. They have so many, more life threatening cases to deal with. The patient is obviously aware of this, and mostly fails to share the full impact the skin problem has on their quality of life. Amazingly, around 20% of young people in the UK suffer with eczema alone; the figure shows a huge increase in comparison to just 5% 50 years ago, so the skin problem situation is a growing problem which must be addressed.
ALTERNATIVE OPTIONS
Nowadays, people no longer believe that the pharmaceuticals the doctors prescribe are unquestionably better or more effective than the natural alternative or complimentary medicines. Indeed, research by Mintel revealed that 50% of those surveyed, have sought alternative routes for many of their minor health problems, and it is estimated that now, more than a quarter of the UK population use herbal remedies.
If the conventional treatments for eczema and dermatitis are not working for you or you are concerned about the known side effects of steroid creams, you now have an option to try an alternative answer. Maybe it will work for you, and be just what you have been looking for, management and control over a condition which seems to rule your life.
Grandma Vines products are not medicines and cannot be used to treat medical conditions such as Eczema Dermatitis or Psoriasis but are very effective in managing dry itchy skin which is commonly associated with these conditions.
